KCET Chemistry · Chapter Priority · 2027

Chemistry is meant to be the scoring subject. These 5 chapters are why.

Widely considered the most scoring of the three KCET science subjects — but only if the right chapters are locked down. The five that consistently carry the most weight across past papers, what's inside each, and what to prioritise while revising.

How this ranking was built

KEA doesn't publish chapter-wise weightage for KCET — these five are the chapters that show up most consistently as high-yield across analysis of past KCET Chemistry papers, spanning all three branches: Physical, Organic and Inorganic. Chemistry is widely considered the most scoring KCET subject since most questions are NCERT-based and formula- or fact-driven rather than requiring long derivations — but that's only true if these chapters specifically are solid.

The Ranking

The 5 chapters, ranked

1Rank 1 of 5

Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers

2nd PUC · Organic · Consistently one of the highest-weightage chapters

Organic Chemistry carries the highest combined weightage of the three branches, and this chapter is routinely one of its biggest individual contributors.

What's inside: Preparation methods, physical and chemical properties, Lucas test, Williamson synthesis, acidity of phenols, distinction reactions.

Priority: reaction-based distinction tests (Lucas, ceric ammonium nitrate) — these are the most repeated question format.

2Rank 2 of 5

Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids

2nd PUC · Organic · Named reactions and mechanisms

The other major organic contributor — questions here lean heavily on named reactions, so it rewards mechanism-level understanding over rote memorising.

What's inside: Nucleophilic addition reactions, aldol condensation, Cannizzaro reaction, haloform test, acidity comparison of carboxylic acids.

Priority: aldol condensation and haloform test — these two show up across multiple question variations.

3Rank 3 of 5

Electrochemistry

2nd PUC · Physical · Numerical-heavy, consistently high-weightage

The most reliably tested Physical Chemistry chapter — numerical and scoring once the standard formulas are automatic.

What's inside: Electrochemical cells, Nernst equation, conductance and molar conductivity, Kohlrausch's law, electrolysis and Faraday's laws.

Priority: Nernst equation numericals — the single most frequently repeated calculation type in this chapter.

4Rank 4 of 5

p-Block Elements

1st & 2nd PUC · Inorganic · Memory-heavy, high question count

Spans both PUC years and consistently contributes a high number of questions — mostly memory-based, which makes it a strong return on revision time.

What's inside: Group 14–18 trends, anomalous behaviour of first members, oxides and oxoacids, preparation and properties of key compounds.

Priority: trend-based questions (oxidation states, acidic/basic nature) — these repeat most often across years.

5Rank 5 of 5

Chemical Bonding

1st PUC · Inorganic · Foundational, consistently tested

A 1st PUC chapter that stays relevant throughout — the concepts here underpin questions across Inorganic and even parts of Organic Chemistry.

What's inside: VSEPR theory, hybridisation, molecular orbital theory, hydrogen bonding, dipole moment, VB theory.

Priority: hybridisation and VSEPR shape questions — the most consistently repeated question type from this chapter.

This isn't the full syllabus — it's a starting point if time is short. Solutions, Chemical Kinetics and Coordination Compounds are also worth strong revision once these five are solid.

Student review

Concepts that finally clicked

One student credited the video lessons with clearing up tricky reaction-mechanism topics, then used the live revision sessions to consolidate everything before the exam.

Student review

Faster answers, less back-and-forth

Another described the notes as a real help for short-answer and numerical-style questions, cutting down the time spent hunting for the right structure to write.

Student review

Doubts resolved same day

A third pointed to the WhatsApp and Telegram doubt-solving groups, where teachers responded quickly instead of leaving questions to pile up before the next class.

Paraphrased from student reviews shared on the Parikshe website and app listing.

“Seven years. 85% average score. 100% pass rate. That's the track record before KCET — now it's the target, with the same team and Samagra Shikshana Karnataka as our partner on the ground.”
