KCET Physics · Chapter Priority · 2027

If you only have time for five Physics chapters, make it these five.

Not the whole syllabus — just the five chapters that consistently show up as highest-weightage across past KCET Physics papers. What's inside each, why it matters, and what to actually prioritise while revising it.

How this ranking was built

KEA doesn't publish chapter-wise weightage for KCET — these five are the chapters that show up most consistently as high-yield across analysis of past KCET Physics papers, combining question frequency with how directly each chapter's concepts map onto typical KCET-style questions. Treat this as a prioritisation guide for a syllabus you should eventually cover in full, not a shortcut around it.

The Ranking

The 5 chapters, ranked

1Rank 1 of 5

Current Electricity

2nd PUC · Consistently the highest-weightage chapter

The single most reliable source of marks in KCET Physics year on year. Questions are usually direct and formula-based once the core relationships are clear.

What's inside: Ohm's Law, resistivity and resistance, Kirchhoff's laws, Wheatstone bridge, potentiometer, cells in series and parallel.

Priority: drill Kirchhoff's law and Wheatstone bridge numericals — these are the most repeated question types.

2Rank 2 of 5

Electrostatics

2nd PUC · Foundation for Current Electricity

Sits right alongside Current Electricity in weightage, and understanding it properly makes the following chapters noticeably easier.

What's inside: Coulomb's Law, electric field and field lines, electric potential and potential energy, capacitors and capacitance, Gauss's Law.

Priority: capacitor combination problems (series/parallel) show up often and are quick marks once the formula is automatic.

3Rank 3 of 5

Ray & Wave Optics

2nd PUC · Among the more scoring, lower-effort chapters

High-weightage and comparatively easier to convert into marks — a strong return on revision time relative to how long it takes to master.

What's inside: Reflection and refraction, lens and mirror formulas, optical instruments, total internal reflection, interference and diffraction.

Priority: lens/mirror formula sign conventions — the most common source of small, avoidable errors.

4Rank 4 of 5

Laws of Motion

1st PUC · Core mechanics, high repetition in PYQs

One of the most consistently important 1st PUC chapters — mechanics questions built on this chapter appear across multiple question styles.

What's inside: Newton's three laws, friction (static and kinetic), circular motion, conservation of momentum, banking of roads.

Priority: friction and circular motion problems — these get combined with other 1st PUC mechanics topics most often.

5Rank 5 of 5

Thermodynamics

1st PUC · Frequently paired with Kinetic Theory questions

Consistently flagged as high-weightage from 1st PUC, and largely law- and formula-based rather than requiring long derivations.

What's inside: Zeroth, first and second laws of thermodynamics, specific heat capacity, work done in thermodynamic processes, heat engines and efficiency.

Priority: work-done-in-a-process numericals (isothermal, adiabatic) — these are the most frequently tested calculation type.

This isn't the full syllabus — it's a starting point if time is short. Once these five are solid, Moving Charges & Magnetism, Alternating Current and Dual Nature of Radiation are also worth strong revision.

Student review

Concepts that finally clicked

One student credited the video lessons with clearing up tricky ray-diagram topics, then used the live revision sessions to consolidate everything before the exam.

Student review

Faster answers, less back-and-forth

Another described the notes as a real help for short-answer and numerical-style questions, cutting down the time spent hunting for the right structure to write.

Student review

Doubts resolved same day

A third pointed to the WhatsApp and Telegram doubt-solving groups, where teachers responded quickly instead of leaving questions to pile up before the next class.

Paraphrased from student reviews shared on the Parikshe website and app listing.

“Seven years. 85% average score. 100% pass rate. That's the track record before KCET — now it's the target, with the same team and Samagra Shikshana Karnataka as our partner on the ground.”
