SSLC chapter-wise marks 2027: where the 625 marks come from

Not every chapter carries the same weight. Here's how Karnataka SSLC's 625 marks are split, which Maths and Science chapters carry the most, and how to build your revision around KSEAB's chapter-wise blueprint.

The short answer

Chapter marks come from KSEAB's annual blueprint

Every year, KSEAB publishes a subject-wise blueprint that states how many marks each chapter carries and in which question types (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 marks). It's the most reliable guide to where marks sit — but it's a planning tool, not a shortcut. Chapter marks can be revised between years, so download the 2026–27 blueprint for your subject and medium from kseab.karnataka.gov.in and treat the figures below as a guide to the pattern, not a substitute.

Where the marks sit

High-weightage chapters in the three core subjects

Figures below reflect published analyses of the 2025–26 blueprint, the most recent year with chapter-level tables available to us. Check each against your official 2026–27 PDF.

81Maths

Mathematics (80 theory marks)

Subject code 81 · Highest weightage: two chapters

Triangles and Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables carry the most marks, at roughly 8 each. The remaining chapters — including Surface Areas and Volumes, Quadratic Equations, Statistics, Polynomials, and Arithmetic Progressions — carry smaller, more evenly spread weightage.

Study order: Triangles and Linear Equations first, then the algebra and mensuration chapters, then the remaining geometry and data chapters.

Tip: Maths marks come from practice, not reading — solve every textbook exercise for the top-weightage chapters before moving on.
83Science

Science (80 theory marks)

Subject code 83 · Physics, Chemistry, Biology

Electricity and Light – Reflection and Refraction are the heaviest chapters at about 7 marks each, followed by Acids, Bases and Salts at about 6. Chemistry and Physics together carry a large share, so don't leave diagrams and numericals for the last week.

Study order: Electricity and Light first, then Acids, Bases and Salts, then the Biology chapters, which reward clear diagrams and definitions.

Tip: Several Science chapters differ by a mark or two between published analyses — your official PDF is the tie-breaker.
85Social

Social Science (80 theory marks)

Subject code 85 · History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Sociology

Marks are spread across many chapters — in the 2025–26 blueprint, individual chapters typically carried between 1 and 5 marks. That makes full-syllabus coverage more valuable here than picking favourites, and map-based questions are worth practising separately.

Study order: Work through every unit, giving extra time to chapters with 4–5 mark questions in your official blueprint.

Tip: Practise maps and short answers regularly — they're quick marks if you've drilled them.
Making it useful

How to plan your revision around the blueprint

  1. Download your subject's blueprint. Get the 2026–27 PDF for your medium from KSEAB (Maths 81, Science 83, Social Science 85).
  2. Rank chapters by marks. Sort the chapter list from highest to lowest weightage.
  3. Secure the top chapters first. Finish and revise high-weightage chapters before moving down the list.
  4. Practise by question type. Work 1, 2, 3 and 4-mark questions separately so you know the expected length of each answer.
  5. Cover everything else. Every chapter carries marks, and internal choice only covers a few extra questions.

Reading the blueprint

What the columns actually tell you

Each chapter row shows how many 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5-mark questions come from it. A chapter with a single 4-mark question and a chapter with four 1-mark questions both carry 4 marks, but they need very different preparation.

  • Total marks per chapter, split by question type
  • Number of questions of each mark value
  • Internal choice — a limited number of extra 2, 3 and 4-mark questions
  • Open-choice map question in Social Science
  • Always cross-check against KSEAB's latest published version
